Preventive Tips

FRONT LOAD WASHERS:

Front load washing machines have a much better chance of growing mold and mildew than there top load counter parts. Because the spin basket and tub sit sideways, water tends to stay in parts of the machine when the wash is complete. Most machines have a clean cycle or sanitize cycle, use these cycles often. Add a half cup of bleach, vinegar or better yet one Afresh tablet. When machine is not in use keep front door open or the slider door to the dispenser open. This will help air to circulate and keep mold build up to a minimum.
Although most soap containers say to use half a cap full its much better to only use about one table spoon of HE soap. Excessive suds in front load machines can some times cause big problems. The suds will climb up the pressure hose and trip the pressure switch. This will make the machine think it is over filling with water and the washer will only drain and or will not work at all. Remember its the action of the front load machine that's cleaning the clothes not so much the soap.
Leaking out the front door onto the floor is another problem people often have with these types of machines. Make sure to clean the bottom of the glass and the very front of the rubber boot (Gasket). It may not seem like it could happen but even a few well placed hairs in this area will create a leak.

Refrigerators:

Keep that refrigerator up and running for years to come. Remove the bottom kick plate off the refrigerator, located at the very front bottom. With a flash light look in to see if there is a large build up of dust, dog and cat hair.
Below almost every refrigerator there are metal coils call a condenser. This is where the heat that is captured in the interior of the refrigerator is transferred to. Below your refrigerator there is also a fan, the fan blows across those coils and the heat from those coils evaporates the water trapped in the drain pan.
It is very important to keep those coils clear from dust, hair etc. If this area collects to much debris the heat will become trapped and will effect the operation of you refrigerator.

Dryer Care:

The most important thing to remember about dryers is proper venting. If all that heat is not able to leave the house and simply stays in the dryer bad things begin to happen.
The first thing you will notice is your clothes start to take two cycles to dry. The moisture from the clothes is trapped in the machine and the clothes simply stay wet. Also look for large build up of lent in and around the dryer.
To test your vent simply turn the dryer on and go look outside, is there good air pressure coming out? No?Take and remove the vent from the back of the dryer is there good air pressure there? If your answer is yes you have a blocked vent.
Blocked dryer vents are responsible 15600 fires just last year.
